Outdoor Winter Activities for Seniors

Jan 24th, 2018

You may have concerns about how your loved ones will handle moving to a senior center and if there will be activities for them to participate. Don’t worry, there are plenty of activities to keep them busy, including outdoor winter activities.

Here are a few that your loved ones can participate in to stay active in the winter at Kingsley Shores.

Watching for Wildlife

Here is an activity that your loved ones can easily do. They can sit outside (or inside) with plenty of blankets and layers to keep warm and watch the different wildlife in the area. Kingsley Shores is located next to a lake and has plenty of wildlife. They could see birds, squirrels, or maybe even a deer!

Walk Around the Lake

On warmer days, your loved ones can take a walk down a lakeside path. This path is near the senior center and there are two different lakes to choose from. They can either walk near Kingsley Lake or trek a little further towards Orchard Lake. For safety, it’d be best to walk around the lakes with a friend or family member or let others know where your loved ones are going in advance.

Activities at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve

Kingsley Shores is near the Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve, which includes lake access. This park includes great cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and even a playground. If your loved ones enjoy those winter outdoor activities, they will enjoy being close to the park so they can easily participate in those events. Another great feature is a playground for those loved ones to bring the young ones in their lives.

There are plenty of indoor activities as well for those that want to stay indoors. Kingsley Shores is also close to restaurants, shops, and the movie theatre. Whether they’re looking for indoor or outdoor activities, your loved ones will enjoy the area and staff at Kingsley Shores.
