The start of a new year is basically a season of its own: the season of “New Year, New You” resolutions. After a few weeks, though, people commonly begin to give up on their New Year’s resolutions.

Learn a New Skill or Hobby
The start of a new year is a great time to try something new. Whether it’s finally learning to crochet, grow your own herbs and vegetables indoors, or At Kingsley Shores, we have a robust calendar of events to choose from – including Wii bowling, Domino Club, Bingo, Pet Visits, and oh so much more.
Connect More with Family and Friends
Maybe there’s an old friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, or maybe you resolved to connect more with family and friends this year. Getting around and committing to regular visits and trips can be difficult - especially with seniors who have mobility issues. Thankfully, we’re in an age of technology that gives us more options to connect. Things like a simple phone call or text, social media platforms like Facebook or Snapchat, or online call services like Skype can bring a personal, fun conversation into the comfort of your own home.
Try New Foods
Winter blues hit hardest when you’re stuck in the same routine – especially when it comes to your meals. Trying something new doesn’t need to be a drastic change – try a new recipe, visit a new restaurant, or even mix up your salad topping! Little changes can make a big difference. Get More Exercise
Especially in Minnesota, this is a hard resolution to stick with. The cold deters us from getting active and promotes a more sedentary lifestyle. Try joining a nearby gym that offers fun classes instead of putting all the planning on yourself. That way, it’s easier to hold yourself accountable - and you’ll be excited to go!
Kingsley Shores residents can work out with one of our SilverAdvantage health and wellness classes. Our Program Directors schedule daily fitness and exercise programs for residents to join. Even if you skip a day (or seven), hop right back on that horse and come join the group!
